Aspö Harbour Pilot Tower »
Aspö Harbour Pilot Tower is situated on the east side of Aspö with a view in all four directions. It has six floors and is about twenty metres high. Standing in the lookout room on the top floor you are 33 metres over the sea. A clear day you can see all the way out to Utklippan the most outer island in the archipelago of Karlskrona.
The tower was built in the end of the Second World War and was inaugurated in 1945. It was harbour pilot station until 1976. Then it became a part of the station in Karlshamn until 1988 when it was totally shut down.
We bought the tower in 1996 and equipped it with water and drainage and also rebuilt it to modern standard for a hostel. In the summer of 1997 we had our opening. During the winter of 2002 we enlarged the establishment by building three cottages, a lookout room on top of the tower and a house for the reception, kitchen, dining room and conference room. Today Aspö Lotstorn is a hotell and conference center.
Since the start local media, Dagens Nyheter and the tv-show Packat och Klart have done pieces on us. But the best PR we gotten is our satisfied customers who have spread the word about us.
